Day 310 ~ Whoppie pies

bake your own!
So I went shopping with Karen last week and we happened upon a homegoods store. I saw this and I wanted it. Back when I worked for Hostess, I used to confuse my costumers, whom I just sold product to, when I would purchase a whoopie pie. It was always vanilla that I liked and it was fattening and delcioius. My customers would say, "You have a whole truck full of cake" but they didn't understand how much I loved whoopie pies. My favorite brand is "Fernanndo's Bakery" which is a bakery out of North Jersey so if you ever want to get me a present, you know what to get me....My birthday is October 8th, just in case you need to know....:)

See you tomorrow.

Day 185 ~ Twinkie Wanna be's

They look like Twinkies but are called Dreamies!
I heard Twinkies are coming back in the summer. Until then, Tastykake is trying to fill the gap. Thanks to my friend and ex-Hostess Co-worker for sending this pic to my phone!

See you tomorrow!

Day 179 ~ Behold the Cake!

Behold the Cake!
Because of work schedules, we didn't have a "family" celebration of Daniel's Birthday until Saturday. Here is Daniel admiring his chocolate cake with all of its candles.

Karen lighting the candles
Daniel, Karen and Matthew went to BJ;s Club store to buy the cake while Justin and I picked up the pizza for dinner. All they had left was chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Not sure if that was Daniel's first choice.

 Before blowing out the candles....

Why Daniel decided to pick up each candle and blow them out individually is beyond me...but it's his birthday so he can do what he wants!

Happy Birhtday, Daniel...20 is  a good age to be.

See you tomorrow.

Day 59~ Martha's Birthday!

Martha!
It was my mom-in-law's birthday yesterday! We celebrated in style with a fantastic cake and great coffee!
How old is Martha? You can ask her yourself, if you dare!

about to make a wish
a contemplative look for the birthday girl.

delicious cake!
The cake was delicious and was procured at the local Shoprite! Who knew they had such a delicious bakery department?

Happy Birthday, Martha! Many, many more!

See you tomorrow.

Day 53~ That didn't take Long...

new cake where Hostess use to be.

My friend Wayne sent me a picture of "Blue Bird" cakes, delivered by Tasty Kake, I believe and they are in the spot where Hostess/Drakes used to be in Shoprtie in Hamilton Square.  I have never seen this brand before and it looks like they are copying the Hostess Brands "look." I bet you it doesn't taste as good as the Hostess Brands, but maybe I am biased!

Hostess/Drakes Display, a thing of the past

Even if it doesn't yield me a job, I hope that someone brings Hostess and Drakes back to the Supermarkets. It's a piece of America that shouldn't fade away.

See you tomorrow!

Day 34 ~ End of an Era!

not on the road anymore!
My friend Bob sent me this picture the other day and he said, this picture is of something that has gone  The way of the Dodo bird!. It turns out I took this picture from a company van while at a red light and I sent it to him.  But, alas, we shall see these trucks no more on the streets. Hostess Brands will probably be sold off in parts to different companies and while most of the products will survive, it will be sold by other companies.

nearly empty!

my bro-in-law and good friend, Mike took this picture last week from the place he gets coffee in the morning. It is a sad sight not to see this rack full of Hostess cake!

the last one!
And here is the last Hostess item in the store. Mike just sent me a text saying he purchased this muffin before he took the picture. So now the shelf is empty.

Mike is a great guy who has a very interesting blog called, "The Cuban Half" which explores Cuban culture. It is a very interesting read, especially his posts about his most recent visit to Havana. I know he wants to go back again! Check it out:  http://www.thecubanhalf.com/

See you tomorrow!

Day 29 ~ A Birthday Celebration!

Sara, about to blow out the Candles
Last week, before Thanksgiving, our family to to "Grandma's house" to sing Happy Birthday to Sara. Now it is true that Sara's birthday was on Veteran's day (Nov 11th) so it was some time ago but she was at school at the time and she missed having a cake with the family.  So, we did it up big!

....it seems like only yesterday that Sara was a little tike like this....

In the pool, yelling for her dog, Spike
I realize I don't have any digital pictures of my kids when they were really young. Or, at least, I can't find them! The picture above was for a story I wrote and was trying to make a "picture book" using photos. I never completed the project.

hanging around, eating cake!
Since Sara was the birthday girl, she chose the cake. The one she liked is Tiramisu. I am not a big fan but it's her day so that's what we ate. I had a little bit and couldn't finish it.

Happy birthday, Sara!

See you, tomorrow!
