Day 309 ~ Optical Illusions on my phone

looks cool
Pamela sent me this pic to my phone, saying I should have the teens do this during a photo scavenger hunt. That's a good idea.

See you tomorrow.

Day 308 ~ Froggy!

love the bow tie!
Today I helped a friend move a chair and I noticed this frog on the front lawn of the person's house whom we were helping. When I saw this happy little frog, I knew that he wanted to make an appearance on my blog.

See you tomorrow.

Day 307 ~ The Spooky Grave yard

The closest tombstone
The next block over there is a small run down grave yard which is locked up so I cannot go inside to get a better look.  It has been here for years and when my kids were little, I took them over to the grave yard on Halloween and attempted to tell a spooky story. They just laughed at me so I decided to leave that genre to Stephen King.

a close up through the fence.
It must be really old because I can't read anything on the tombstone.

very unkempt
As you can see, it is very run down and that is a shame.

See you tomorrow.

Day 306 ~ Stray Cats, not the band.

What you  looking at?
A neighbor of mine takes his dogs for walks and this tabby cat usually follows him around on the walk. Today, that cat decided to pay me a visit. When I didn't give it any food, it ran way.

about to run away

Running away

Day 305 ~ Changed the Church Sign

the church sign
Vacation Bible School ended two weeks ago and I only got around to changing the sign about now. That wouldn't be so bad except the sign said "VBS August 12-16" and I always hated it when churches would leave old announcements up. Well, here I am guilty of the same thing. Oh, well. At least I don't leave Christmas lights up all year long.

Since it was night when I changed it, I thought about Jesus being the light of the world which is why I chose that phrase to put up.

See you tomorrow.

Day 304 ~ How I keep track of my car

Street sign in NYC
Parking in New York can be tough at times and sometimes you have to park a few blocks away from where you actually want to be....I tend to be forgetful so I took a picture of where my car was parked so I would be able to find it again when I wanted to go home. Works every time.

See you tomorrow.

Day 303 ~ I"VE BEEN PHOTOSHOPED!!!

2 cute dogs, still
Remember yesterday's cute little picture of two adorable dogs who were starring and I ask the question, I wonder what they are thinking? Well, someone, who shall remain nameless, doctored up my pics to answer that question for us.

See you tomorrow.

Day 301 ~ Flag Walker

God bless America
There has been this guy around town who walks around in red, white and Blue shorts and carries a HUGE American flag. He is his own parade. I am not sure why he does this but it is cool to see. I slowed down (on a busy street, I know it's stupid) to take this man's picture. Sadly I did not get the size of his flag in the picture. Maybe next time.

See you tomorrow.

Day 300 ~ A Bad Accident on the Long Island Expressway!

I took this picture
While driving to meet my brothers (and sis-in-law,) we were slowed down by this accident. I took the L.I.E. because the radio said it was "smooth sailing" in terms of traffic. That means, that this accident had just happened and hadn't been picked up on by the news radio.

The front of the car looked worse!
Karen took this picture. Lord, have mercy!

Me and Johnny
We ended going to a diner. Had a great time.

Day 299 ~ My favorite Coffee

a dark roast
Today Karen and I went to the B.J.'s Clubstore and I thought I'd take a picture of my favorite coffee. I didn't buy any today because I have enough till next week. What I love about it is the price of the Fresh beans is about the same for "already ground" coffee.  And nothing is better than grounding your own coffee beans seconds before you brew your coffee.

See you tomorrow.

Day 298 ~ "Oh-dark-thirty"

It was very dark out...
"Oh-dark-thirty"....that is a military expression which explains what time I woke up this morning in order to ride with a friend of mine who owns a NATURES OWN bread route. It was fun to remember the old days when I used to get up early to run a route....now, that is someone else job.

click here to read more about the expression.

Day 296 ~ Dog Day Afternoon , part Deux!

Part of the crowd
Here are the rest of the pics of the Your dog is worth it, too day. As I said yesterday, we had a great time!

Riley and Margaret
Wheaten owners have a lot to talk about so when we met Michelle, who owns Riley, we spent a lot of time talking about the breed. I heard someone else say while standing in line somewhere, "Have you noticed people are more friendly, when they are with their dogs?" That is true! We made new friends all day long.

We had to take lots of breaks because the dogs got tired. Margaret, because of her coat and Libby because her legs are short.

My friend, Victor, works at Petsmart so I took this picture for him.

Here is a picture of a man in a dog's costume.

more resting.

We'll do this again next year (hopefully) because we all love it!

See you tomorrow.

Day 295 ~ Dog Day Afternoon

Margaret be petted by a giant dog
Karen and I spent the day at  the Your Dog is Worth it, too event in Cranberry, NJ. We loved it. The dogs are exhausted and so are we. I have lots of pictures but am too tired to post them all now. Look for more pictures soon. I love this picture because Margaret was trying to figure out how this big dog was able to walk on two legs.

See you tomorrow.

Day 294 ~ Fishing for Pizza

a Pizzeria window
Karen and I were out and about and we came across this painting on a window of a pizza place. I thought it was cute. The fish looks relieved!

Day 293 ~ Parking Lot Art

a parking spot
Karen and I went to the Olive Garden with some friends from church. We had a great time and when we left we found this spay-painted in one of the parking spots.
a happy dead guy
I guess he was supposed to have been hit by a car since the word Boom is so prominent but, for a dead guy, he sure looks happy.

See you tomorrow.

Day 292 ~ OCC

Ocean County College
I was with Daniel yesterday because he had to go to his college to talk to the admissions people. We saw this sign...not as glamorous at the HOLLYWOOD sign but it is the same idea.

Day 291 ~ Prayer and Praise

bill and Pastor Brad practicing

Sunday night, our church had a time of prayer and praise. Bill asked me to man the video screen so I could flash the lyrics to the choruses on the screen for the people to sing.  I got there early to make sure I was in position and I took this picture of Bill and Pastor Brad getting ready for the service.

In the background are some rocks which is part of the set up for VBS. It goes on all week.

Day 290 ~ VBS all set up

The front of the church
VBS is going on all week at my church.  The theme is the Ten Commandments....maybe I am a bit too old fashioned but I don't like reducing the Ten Commandments to "God's Rockin Rules." I am all for teaching the kids but, I don't know, I just can't picture Moses coming down from the mountain and explaining to the kids how "God rocks."
a rockin' rock

A rock...He has drumsticks in his hand and is sitting in front of a drumset....it's cute.

still allowed in churches, if not in courthouses

The traditional Ten Commandments.

I hope the kids learn a lot this week.

I've been sworn to secrecy on all the particulars of this particular disaster but, I can tell you it tastes better than it looks....

Day 288 ~ My niece and nephew!

pointing to a yellow bird

Today, my niece, Stephanie, who affectionately goes by Stephanie the meanie, which was the title of a book I never wrote, visited her grandparents-my in-laws.  It was great to see her. We talked "shop."She finished a course on Medical Billing and Coding and just took the state exam and I asked her about it. Turns out the exam is very tough.

looking cool
 Mike is her boyfriend.
enjoying his wine
Pete is my nephew and it was good to see him again. He is painting houses now-a-days.

Here is a video I made from 8mm film. In it, I and my wife are very young and Stpehanie's and Pete's mom is in it. She died of cancer at an all too young age. We miss her!

See you tomorrow.

Day 287 ~ Store Front Church

a store front church
I took my son to the grocery store- one I don't go to because they only sell knock-off brands- and I noticed that there was a strip mall across the way. In it, was this store front church. I found it odd only because most store front churches are either evangelical or Pentecostal type missions. Unitarians aren't known to be aggressive evangelizers. Perhaps, it is because their attendance is so low that is they don't need too much space. Thomas Jefferson would have been appalled. He believed that Unitarians would replace all Christian denominations because of its rationalism.  Of course, this is the same man who said that "Men would never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." Well, he was right about the king part, anyway.

A poster in the window

The sign looks temporary. must be waiting on the permanent one.
It turns out my insurance agent moved right next to the store front church.

See you tomorrow.

Day ~286- have a nice day?

Funny cat

My friend Victor sent this to my phone with the caption "have a nice day?".....I guess that's cat humor (he owns cats) but I don't get it....it made me smile anyway.
See You tomorrow.
