Day 166 ~ An Office Manager...Hard at work!

Pammy G is my wife's friend and, from time to time, I do work for the company whose office she manages. Actually some of what she does is what I am studying to do in my Medical Billing and Coding course so I guess she can be my mentor :)

Day 150 ~ Waiting for Matthew

My son doesn't drive so I have to pick him up at work. This is what it looks like when I park my car and wait for him.  He washes dishes at an assisted living facility.

Day 102 ~ Karen's First Day at Work!

 Yes, Karen went to work yesterday but the whole day was sitting around in meetings, getting orientated to the hospital and their different programs.  But, today, she starts her first day of work. That is, she will be shadowing an experienced patient transporter and learning the nuts and bolts of what she actually has to do all day.

She is only allowed to wear black color scrubs. I guess they have different colors for different positions. This way they won't mistake her for a surgeon and ask her to perform an Cholecystectomy. I am sure Karen wouldn't mind trying but the patient might. :)

I am very proud of Karen and also very grateful. Now, that she is working, we'll be getting extra money plus medical benefits! That can come in handy! Don't forget to leave Karen an congratulatory greeting.

Day 82 ~ Taking Matt to Work!

 I stood by the window and watched Karen pull out of the driveway and take Matthew, who does not drive, to work. So I decided to take a picture of it.

It's about a 25 minute drive so usually Karen and I switch off, one taking him and the other picking him up.
We both love it when he has a day off :)

Day 47 ~ Doing Volunteer Work

My friend, Ken, works at Ocean's Harbor House as a facility manager. He was supposed to get "volunteer workers" from the Department of Corrections but they bailed out on him because they were tied up with Hurricane Sandy Clean up so he went down from 8 workers to just himself.  He sent me an emergency text to help him fill up a dumpster with leaves.  Well, why not? It's not like I have a job to go to!

It felt good to be working again. I do like the feeling of accomplishment of doing something plus that tired feeling where you feel like you earned your night's sleep.

Day 33 ~ My first Job Fair!

This is what I look like before I go to the Job Fair!

Here I am all dressed up, ready to go to my first Job Fair! I don't have a sports jacket but with my long sleeved shirt and tie, I look professional enough, I think!

My Friend, Diego who I know "in the route sales business" and from my church told me about the Job Fair. We decided to drive together. We met at the church parking lot and drove up in my VW bug all the way to Edison, NJ where the Fair was being held from 5pm to 7pm.

We arrived very early which is what you should do when you are looking for a job so we had time to sit around and talk. My brother Ray once got hired for a job just because he arrived one hour early for the job interview.  The boss was so impressed by his enthusiasm that he hired him on the spot!

My friend, Dennis, who was also a Hostess Brands route salesman met me at the Job Fair. Even if I didn't make any contacts with employers at the fair, it was worth going to Edison just to see Dennis again!  He makes me laugh. I am going to miss working with him.

The whole evening was beneficial in that it gave me hope that there are jobs out there. I just need to find the right one for me. Thankfully, with unemployment insurance, I can afford, for a while, to be a bit picky. Last night, of the eleven companies who made presentations, I talked to four representatives. I got further information from them and will weigh my options.I know, sooner or later, I will get a job!
