Day 244 ~ Going to the Movies!

The big screen and empty chairs
Karen and I went to the movies last night with her parents to see Man of Steel. She was disappointed, I less so. But I want to know why I have to sit through commercials at a movie theater? If I wanted commercials, I'd stay home at watch television.

A J.C. Penny Commercial

Yes, here I am watching a commercial that I could have easily have watched at home....oh, well...I guess that is a good time to get the popcorn, right?

See you tomorrow.

Day 242 ~ Going to the Base!

Special Parking

I went to the base today to shop at the Base Exchange (BX) and the Commissary. I noticed this parking sign. I guess it is for anyone who is hurt or disabled due to combat. The parking space was right near the front door. Giving a wonder warrior preferential parking is the least we can do for them. God bless them!
Checking things out
My friend from my old job had wanted to visit the base for a long time so I let him tag along.  Here we are at clothing sales which sells mostly uniform items but he stocked up on lots of things.
happy to pose for a pic
After we went shopping, my friend Bill treated me to lunch! I had a Swiss cheese burger and fries. It was delicious!

See you tomorrow.

Day 241 ~Ugly Tie Contest

The two contestants
Jr NYI, the church youth group, met after church yesterday afternoon. We had an ugly tie contest. Only two kids wore ties. Guess which tie won the ugly tie contest? It was the girl on the left. Even though the girl on the right had an interesting look but the tie on the left was, in my opinion, the wearer of the ugliest tie. She won five dollars!
three ties for the price of one
Daniel helped out and came dressed for the occasion.
good times!

I joined in on the fun, too.
my ugly tie
I stole the idea for a sock for an ugly tie from my sister, Nancy!
What? I know, I don't have a tie!
No tie but he still had fun.  We ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and chips.

This teen joined in on the fun and, put this tie together at the last minute.

Day 240 ~ Chalk Art from the kids!

Our Jr NYI youth group met and did some chalk art. They drew themselves on the parking lot.  These pics will be sent to their dads as a belated "Father's day gift." At first, I was going to have the kids lie down and let someone else trace them but it was really hot and no one wanted to get burned.

working hard

Daniel thought it would be funny to do a CRIME SCENE outline.

Day 239 ~ Duck Season!

walking towards my car
Duck Season! Rabbit Season!...remember that old Bugs Bunny cartoon? Well, it turns out it's duck season around my house.  This duck was seen walking on my lawn towards my car. I was just about to drive Matthew to work.

Walking away from me.
When I started to walk towards him to get a better picture, he started running away.  I wonder what he is doing around my house? ...we could have duck soup tonight!

See you tomorrow.

Day 238 ~ Academic Excellence!

The proud Scholar!
I got this certificate in the mail today. It seems I have achieved Academic Excellence with a 4.0 average so far.  There are two tests every five weeks and I have, for the most part, scored close to 100 on them. Now, I have been averaging 85 % on the tests because the course work is getting harder but I am able to bring my grade up with the assignments, discussions and essays.  I should finish this course in November.

me upside down!
No matter how you look at it, I'm achieving Academic Excellence....My wife took this picture first but the camera was upside down and didn't realize it.

Day 237 ~ Too Close for Comfort!

The Tree!
In our backyard we have a tree close to the fence line and it's branch is growing a bit too much for my preference. I am afraid that the next big storm will fell the tree and the big branch will end up on my roof....so, I am going to perform some tree surgery. Yes, a  branch-a-dectomy will be happening soon!

Stay tuned!

See you tomorrow.

Day 236 ~ A Friendly Game of Chess!

Daniel and Thomas, thinking hard!
We went to Karen's Parents last night because some family came to town. Here is Daniel playing chess with Thomas. Both are brilliant strategists so you know it's going to be a close game. As it turns out, Daniel won, but, by all reports, just barely. They seemed to be evenly matched.

The game!
Later on they played a game called Bughouse chess which involves two chess sets, four people and some quick thinking. I'm not sure who won that game!

See you tomorrow!

Day 232 ~ Unusual Speed Limit!

The sign by the front desk

I took Daniel to Camp Hebron in Halifax, PA yesterday for a young adult retreat. I was surprised to see this sign on the front door by the check out. How in the world can you know if you are going 14 1/2 miles per hour?

I was way under 14 1/2 when I took this pic

As you can see, the signs really are out there!

Beautiful camp grounds

I tried to keep my speed under 25 miles an hour....

See you tomorrow.

In celebration of Flag Day, I decided to post a picture of a flag my wife painted on our backyard fence many years ago. It could use a little touch-up but still looks good! If you want to see the fence that inspired my wife to paint this, click here.

Day 228 ~ Art at Ocean County College

entitled, "Dog Toys"
My son is taking an Art course at OCC for the summer and I bring my Medical Coding Work to do at the college while he takes his class. While I was waiting for my son, I saw some interesting art. I like the colors of the painting above.

hanging from the ceiling

This reminded me of a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon.

I think the eyes should have been the same color

It is made of buttons. The artist had to steal a lot of shirts to do this project.

What is it?
Not sure what this but it's cool.

The picture below is a semi-nude à la Renaissance paintings but if I'd thought I'd warn you first just in case that offends you....It is a bit on the macabre side, as well...It's called  Death and Me.

Scroll below if you want to see it.....otherwise, leave now......
